Three Tasty Italian Treats
Since 1999, Paolo (Paul) Mozzicato has served as the principal and project manager of Mozzicato Real Estate and the principal and manager of Mozzicato Bakery, both based in Hartford, Connecticut. As the manager of the bakery, Paul Mozzicato oversees business operations and production of fine Italian pastries.
The country of Italy produces some of the most popular pastries and baked goods in the world. Here are some of the best:
1. Brioche. A breakfast pastry usually dipped in coffee or cappuccino, brioche is similar to a French croissant, but the dough is more cake-like and made with more sugar. Brioches can come filled with cream, jelly, honey, or chocolate.
2. Crostata. This Italian pie has a crust made of Italian pastry. Crostatas also have a variety of filling options, including fruit and jelly.
3. Cassata siciliana. Originating in Sicily, this traditional Italian baked good is a sponge cake that has been soaked in fruit juice or liqueur. The cake has layers of ricotta cheese, candied fruit peels, and a cream similar to that in cannoli. Cassata siciliana is covered with marzipan and topped with sugar or candied fruit decorations.
